- A Pulse Oximeter is a non-invasive medical device used for measuring a patient’s oxygen level in the blood and pulse rate
- It provides continuous, non-invasive monitoring of oxygen saturation of haemoglobin in arterial blood. Its results are updated with each pulse wave.
- It has been widely used in secondary care for over two decades, especially in peri-operative, paediatric, intensive care patients and emergency departments, but is less well established in general practice.
